Turkey-Apple Skinny Skillet Sausages

4 tbsp. avocado or light olive oil (2 tbsp. for mix and 2 tbsp. for browning sausages)

1 large granny smith apples, cored, small diced

1 medium to large sweet onion, finely chopped

1 lb. organic ground turkey

1 tbsp. pure maple syrup

1 tsp. Bells Seasoning

½ tsp. fennel seed, crushed

Dash of turmeric

Dash of nutmeg

Dash of liquid smoke (optional)



Large cast iron skillet or sheet pan

Step by Step Instructions

Prepare ingredients as suggested above.

Preheat a standard oven to 375 degrees. If making links, lightly spray a sheet pan with a clean, high-heat spray oil. Reserve to the side.

Heat your skillet to medium-high heat. Add oils, apples, and onions and sauté for 3-5 minutes until soft and fragrant. Remove from heat and let slightly cool.

In your stand mixer with paddle attachment, add apples and onions with remaining ingredients. 

Mix well until uniformly combined.


Shape, prep and bake patties:

Reheat skillet to medium-high heat, and add remaining oil.

Using a medium to large scoop (equal to ½ cup or larger), scoop the mixture into a single layer on sheet pan. Press to form a patty. Bron on both sides for a few minutes.

Transfer to skillet and place patties in the oven to bake for about 8 minutes, or until desired degree of doneness.

Shape, prep, and bake links:

You’ll need a sheet pan and a large pastry bag or 1-gallon baggie.

Fill the bag with sausage mix.

Unfold the baggie and zip shut (releasing air). With sharp scissors, cut 1-inch away from either corner at the bottom of the baggie.

Pipe 8″ x 3″ sausage links on your sprayed sheet pan.

Bake for 12-16 minutes or until desired degree of doneness.
